  • Today in History:

AD 912, Otto I (the Great), Roman emperor (962-73), born.

AD 1221, Alfonso X (the Wise) King of Castile & Leon (1252), born.

AD, 1248 The city of Seville, France, surrenders to Ferdinand III of Castile after a two-year siege. Sad, they could have been on Crusade instead of fighting each other. (Seville is in Spain to this day!)

AD , 1936 The United States, under the Presidency of Stalin's good friend FDR, abandons the American embassy in Madrid, Spain, which is engulfed by civil war and by supporting the Communist side abandons the Spanish people to 2 ½ years of civil strife.
