On this day:

AD 1632, King Gustavus Aldophus of Sweden, dies in battle, and a protestant scourge of our Holy Faith is removed from the scene.

AD 1661, R+I+P Carlos II, last Habsburg king of Spain (1665-1700), succeeded by the House of Bourbon which, after many vicissitudes, still rules.

AD 1917, Bolshevik revolution begins with the capture of the Winter Palace. Le 24 octobre in the Old Style, Julian Calendar, hence «The October Revolution». And enslaves increasing numbers, slaughtering millions, until the beginning of the end in the Pontificate of H.H. John-Paul II.

AD 1918, Republic of Poland proclaimed. She stood as a bulwark of Greco-Roman Catholic Civilisation between the International Socialist USSR and National Socialist Germany, until they destroyed her in 1939.

AD 1923, USSR adopts experimental calendar, with 5-day "weeks" in an attempt to eradicate even the smallest trace of our Civilisation.

AD 1999, Australia rejects republic. The left-wing, red republicans lose one. Whilst Australia is simply a crowned republic, protestant in background, this was still a win for the good guys.
