  • On this day:

    AD 1626, St. Peter's Cathedral in Rome is officially dedicated. According to the History Channel. Of course, St Peter's is not and never has been a Cathedral!

    AD 1905, Prince Carl of Denmark becomes King Haakon VII of Norway, after Norway breaks from Sweden. To the disappointment of republicand worldwide, Norway chose to remain a Monarchy.

    AD 1906, Anarchists bomb St. Peter's Basilica in Rome. At least they knew their Liturgical Calendar!

    AD 1918, Latvia declares independence from Russia. Enslaved again 1n 1939-40, Latvia stands free again!

    AD 1926, Pope Pius XI encyclical On the persecution of the Church in Mexico, denouncing the Red communist government. However, we should thank God for the Martyrs of the persecution!

    AD 1936, Germany & Italy recognized Spanish government of Francisco Franco. And if the West had done likewise, Spain would have been spared years ov civil strife!

    AD 1976, Spain's parliament establishes democracy after 37 years of dictatorship. And leads, with the help of the perjuror Juan-Carlos, to the Red government attacking the Church today!

    AD 1989, More than 50,000 people take to the streets of Sofia in Bulgaria demanding political reform. The beginning of the end for the Reds in Bulgaria!
