Austrian Cardinal Says Tendency Towards Secularization Is Inevitable

His Eminence is more of an optimist than I am. He believes «it should not be necessarily assumed that a secularized society should be an inevitably irreligious society». I believe that his attitude is defeatism. A secular society is, of neccesity, an irreligious one, but secularisation is not inevitable. And it seems that this defeatism in the face of secularisation is now the official doctrine of the Vatican! Renato, Cardinal Martino, president of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace, said essentially the same thing today. Ss Cyril and Methodios, Patrons of Europe, pray for Europe!
