The Conservative-controlled Waveney council in Lowestoft which provides grants totalling £10,000 for festive lights, has issued a report which states that because Christmas focuses only on the Christian faith, continuing the funding would “not fit well with the council’s core values of equality and diversity”. King Charles I and the men who stood with him at the founding of the oldest political party in Christendom must be spinning in their graves. Dr Johnson defined Tory as, «One who adheres to the ancient constitution of the state, and the apostolical hierarchy of the church of England (emphasis added), opposed to a Whig».
