France, The US's Oldest Ally?
Don't get me wrong. I carry France in my heart as a Second Homeland, but it is the pays reèl that I love, it is historic France, rural France, the France that still lives in the millions of French hearts that is opposed totally, root and branch to the Revolution and all its fruits.
France is often referred to as the US's «oldest ally», because of her support for the American Revolution. Indeed, until their murders, the portraits of Their Most Christian Majesties hung in both Houses of the American Congress. However, it is seldom mentioned that the new American State's first war was the «undeclared naval war» with (Revolutionary) France. Revoulutionary France has never been a willing ally of the US. Yes, the Americans saved their bacon in two world wars and what thanks do we get? The two stories below will give you some idea. The «Conservative» Jacques Chirac is cozying up to Hugo Chavez, the Communist dictator of Venezuela, an avowed enemy of the United States.
