Feast of St John of the Cross, CD, IIIrd Class
Today is the Feast of St John of the Cross. His Feast is of the Third Class in the Universal Calendar, but I assume that, if the Breviarum Carmelitarum had ever been reformed in line with the Johannine changes, it would be of the Second Class in the O. Carm. Breviary, since he is a major Carmelite Saint, and of the First Class in the O.C.D. Breviary, since he was a co-Founder of the Reform.
The Collect from the Roman Breviary:
O God, who didst give to blessed John, thy Confessor and Doctor, grace to shew forth a singular love of perfect self-denial and of bearing thy Cross : grant, we beseech thee ; that we, cleaving stedfastly to his pattern, may attain to everlasting glory. Through.
