Francisco Franco, R+I+P
Today is the 31st anniversary of the death of Francisco Paulino Hermenegildo Teódulo Franco y Bahamonde Salgado Pardo, the man who may very well have saved all of Europe from the Red Terror. Had the Communists taken control of Spain, all of Europe would have been at danger. A devout Catholic, denounced as a Nazi by the modern left, he was one of three world leaders to receive telegrammes of thanks from the world Jewish community after the war for his efforts in saving thousands of Jewish lives (the other two were His Holiness, Pope Pius XII and His Majesty, Gustav V, King of the Swedes, the Goths and the Wends).
It is difficult to find any balanced sources regarding Franco on the web. Here are the "On this date" article from the BBC, a link to the Fundación Nacional Francisco Franco (in Spanish) and a link to the homepage of a recent book, Hitler stopped by Franco.
