Happy St Remi's Day

Today is the Feast of St Remi,

St. Remigius, bishop of Rheims and confessor, who fell asleep in the Lord on the 13th of January, but is commemorated on this day because of the translation of his body.

From the Roman Martyrology, 1 October

It is this St Remi that baptised Clovis, King of the Franks on Christmas Eve, AD 496, and witnessed the Covenant God made with the Kings of France, establishing their Kingdom as the Eldest Daughter of the Church. It is a pious belief that a dove brought the Holy Chrism from Heaven which the Saint used to anoint the King. This chrism was used to anoint all the Legitimate Kings of France up until the Martyr King, Louis XVI, after which it was destroyed by the revolutionaries out of their hatred for the Altar and the Throne.

(At the Coronation of) King Clovis of the Franks at Rheims (497), ... a dove descend(ed) with an ampoule of oil, with which the king was anointed. All succeeding kings of France were anointed — with the same oil, miraculously resupplied — and crowned at Rheims.

More on him from the Order of the Magnificat.

May St Remi pray for France, that she may return to the Covenant with God that he witnessed. May he pray that the Lieutenant of Christ, His Most Christian Majesty Louis XX, by God's grace King of France and Navarre, may be restored to the Throne of Clovis and of his forefather, St Louis IX.

Vive le Christ-roi! Vive la France! Vive le roi, Louis XX!
