Big Nick makes it official!

Big Nick, "Sarko" to my French readers, has made it official. He's running for the Presidency of the French Republic, the same Republic he has brought into disrepute. Remember the riots of last year? This is the man who fomented them and then ran like the dog he is, with his tail between his legs, when they blew up in his face. He's also the "Frenchman" who suggested using the taxpayers' money to build mosques for the "immigrants"! France under the policy of laïcité, will not give a penny to the Church, all of whose property was stolen by the Republic, but Sarko wants to build mosques for the infidels with tax money!

Holy Father encourages destruction of Christendom

I am almost in tears as I write these lines. Our most holy Lord and Father, Benedict XVI, has sold out Europe and dishonoured the memory of the myriads who died defending Europe from the Muslim invasions. Until today, the Vatican had stood firmly against Turkey's admission to the EU, an admission which may very well be Europe's death knell if it happens. Today, however, His Holiness, switched sides. Erdogan, Prime Minister of Turkey, was quoted as saying that His Holiness said, "We're not political, but we wish for Turkey to join the EU". The Times article reports, "However, a papal spokesman later clarified the Pope's remarks, saying that he had told the Turkish leader that the Vatican did not have the power or competence to intervene, but "viewed positively and encouraged" the process of Turkish entry into the EU "on the basis of common values and principles".

Exactly what "common values and principles" does our Holy Father mistakenly believe we share with Turkey? When Turkey grants legal personality to the Patriarchate of Constantinople and returns the Great Church to Christian Use, when it admits to the genocide of the Armenian Christians in the early XXth century, when it apologises for the thousands of Christians murdered in 1956, when it establishes something approximating what the West understands as the Rule of Law, then we can begin to think of the possibility that some day in the far future, Turkey might become worthy of admission into the European community, but not until then.

Our Holy Father is, indeed, infallible in matters of Faith and Morals when speaking ex cathedra, but in temporal politics he has no charism of infallibility. In this case he is not only in error, but tragically so. We can only pray that he is unable to sway the majority of Europeans who oppose allowing Turkey into the EU and are slowly influencing their governments to oppose it as well.

Muslims out of Europe! No! to Turkey in the EU! Return Hagia Sophia to the Church!

Dons reject plan to halt 900 years of self-rule by Oxford

When Catholic theorists, drawing on the Social Magisterium of the Church, speak of "corporations" they do not mean the modern limited liability company or société anonymé, they mean a body like the mediæval guilds and universities. Oxford University is one of the last surviving such corporations in the world. In fact, the word "universitas" was often used as a synonym for "corporation" during the High Ages of Faith! It is great news that the Congregation of Oxford has rejected plans to "modernise" its structure. Now, let us pray God that it may return to its Catholic roots as evidenced by the names of many of its Colleges (All Soul's, and Corpus Christi come to mind).

The 911th Anniversary of the First Crusade

On this day in the Year of the Incarnation 1095, our most Holy Lord and Father, Blessed Urban II, of the Order of St Benedict of the Cluniac Reform, gave a sermon at the Coucil of Clermont held in the commune of Clermont in the Auvergne. He called upon the Knights of Christendom to liberate the Holy Land from the Saracen infidels and the Knights of Christendom responded, "Deus vult!"

This was the First Crusade, of nine. May God speed the day when our current Holy Father (to whom may God grant a hundred years!) or his successor may preach the Tenth Crusade! And may we, the spiritual descendants of those XIth Century Knights, answer in like manner, "God wills it!"

The Miraculous Novena of Grace (Begin on Today!)

(Said from March 4 - March 12 or Nov 25 until Dec 3)

Prayer to St. Francis Xavier

Most amiable and most loving St. Francis Xavier, in union with thee I
reverently adore the Divine Majesty. I rejoice exceedingly on account of
the marvelous gifts which God bestowed upon thee. I thank God for the
special graces He gave thee during thy life on earth and for the great
glory that came to thee after thy death. I implore thee to obtain for me,
through thy powerful intercession, the greatest of all blessings – that of living
and dying in the state of grace. I also beg of the to secure for me the specialfavor I ask in this novena. (Here you may mention the grace,
spiritual or temporal, that you wish to obtain.)

In asking this favor I am fully resigned to the Divine Will. I pray and
desire only to obtain that which is most conducive to the greater glory of
God and the greater good of my soul.

V. Pray for us, St. Francis Xavier.

R. That we may be made worthy of the promise of Christ.

Let us Pray

O God, Who didst vouchsafe, by the preaching and miracles of St. Francis
Xavier, to join unto Thy Church the nations of the Indies, grant, we
beseech Thee, that we who reverence his glorious merits may also imitate his
example, through Jesus Christ Our Lord. Amen.

Then add add an Our Father and Hail Mary, three times, in memory of St.
Francis Xavier’s devotion to the Most Holy Trinity, and Glory be to the
Father 10 times in thanksgiving for the graces received during his 10 years
of apostolate.

HISTORY: The Novena of Grace owes its origin to the Saint himself. At
Naples, in December 1633, Fr. Marcello Mastrilli, SJ, was at the point of
death when the Saint appeared to him and, bidding him renew a vow he had
made to labor in Japan, said:

PROMISE: “All those who implore my help daily for nine consecutive days,
from the 4th to the 12th of March included, and worthily receive the Sacraments of Penance and Holy Eucharist on one of the nine days, will experience my protection and may hope with entire assurance to obtain from God any grace they ask for the good of their souls and the glory of God.”

The Fr. arose, instantly cured. So well has the Saint kept this promise
that this devotion in his honor became universally known as the Novena of
Grace. Its efficacy is not restricted to the dates mentioned. It may be
very appropriately made from Nov 25 to Dec 3, the Feast of St Francis
Xavier.

Try it, it's fun!

Feast of St John of the Cross, CD, IIIrd Class

Today is the Feast of St John of the Cross. His Feast is of the Third Class in the Universal Calendar, but I assume that, if the Breviarum Carmelitarum had ever been reformed in line with the Johannine changes, it would be of the Second Class in the O. Carm. Breviary, since he is a major Carmelite Saint, and of the First Class in the O.C.D. Breviary, since he was a co-Founder of the Reform.

The Collect from the Roman Breviary:

O God, who didst give to blessed John, thy Confessor and Doctor, grace to shew forth a singular love of perfect self-denial and of bearing thy Cross : grant, we beseech thee ; that we, cleaving stedfastly to his pattern, may attain to everlasting glory. Through.

Again, proof that the answer is yes. An interview with a volunteer for a suicide bombing mission.

Silencing the truth

"Something similar happened at this year’s Hay-on-Wye festival, sponsored by the Guardian, where a five-person panel discussed ‘Are there are any limits to free speech?’ One of the Muslim panelists said if anyone offended his religion, he would strike him."

This at a festival sponsored by a major British newspaper!

(One of the panelists) "started by referring to an anti-Semitic passage in the New Testament — which passed without comment. But when he began to list the passages in the Koran that denigrate Jews, describing them as monkeys and pigs, the panelists went ballistic. One of them, Madeline Bunting of the Guardian, put her hand over the microphone and said words to the effect, ‘I am not going to sit here and listen to any criticisms of Muslims."

Unfortunately, while the dhimmis will get what they deserve, many innocent people will suffer when shariyah is establshed in Britain!

Prominent Catholic Lebanese Politician Murdered by Syrians

Pierre Amine Gemayel, grandson of Sheikh Pierre Gemayel (1905-1984), founder of the Phalange Party, son of Amine Gemayel (1942- ), former President of Lebanon and nephew of Bashir Gemayel (1947-1982), President-elect of Lebanon, who was murdered by the Syrians before he could take office, has in his turn been assasinated by the Syrians. He was the Minister for Industry in the current Lebanese government.

The Gemayels are one of the premier families of the Maronite Catholic Community in Lenbanon and have been dedicated for three generations to the sovereignty of Lebanon and the security of the Christian communities. Syria has been their enemy from the beginning in the interests of a Muslim dominated "Greater Syria".

The Catholic communities of Lebanon (several Rites are represented) have been for centuries a Western, French influenced outpost of the West in the Muslim dominated Levant. Let us pray for the soul Pierre Gemayel and for Lebanon, that she may again rise strong and free of Syrian domination!

Boycott Walmart!

Walmart has come full circle, from the small-town, family friendly store that Sam Walton envisioned, which only sold goods made in America to the gigantic, porn-pushing, pro-homosexual agenda vendor of foreign sweatshop products it is today. St. Edmund of East Anglia, KM

Today is also the Feast of St Edmund King and Martyr. An old English Saint of the Sarum Calendar, his Feast is not kept in the Universal Roman Calendar, but he is remembered in the Roman Martyrology thus, "In England, St. Edmund, king and martyr."

The Collect from the Anglican Breviary:

O God of unspeakable mercy, who didst give Thy blessed Saint King Edmund grace to overcome the enemy by dying for Thy Name: mercifully grant to us Thy servants; that by his intercession we may be found worth to conquer and subdue the temptations of our ancient adversary. Through.

The Proper Lesson from the Anglican Breviary:

Edmund was born of the nobility of the old Saxons, and was a Christian worshipper from his early youth. He was chosen King of the East Angles by the voice of all his fellow country-men, whereafter he was good toward his subjects, but stern toward evildoers. For he went straight along the King's Highway, neither turning aside to the right-hand by puffing himself up with his own good deeds, nor to the left-hand by yielding to the weakness of man's frailty. When Hinguar, duke of the heathens of the north, came into East Anglia, and the country-folk could not withstand the poilers, he took King Edmund out of his kingly town of Hoxne, and when he had set him before him, he commanded him to forswear the Christian Faith. When he would not, they bound him to a certain tree and most direfully hided him with many stripes, but neither keenness of torture nor the threats of tormentors could change his will. When the savages saw it, they became as it were mad, and pierced the King's whole body with arrows, making breach upon breach. But he was still alive when they haled him away from the bloody stock, and a headsman struck off his head at one blow. Holy Edmund offered himself to God as a burnt offering of a sweet savour on November 20th, 870, and was crowned with martyrdom in the dying of the Lord Jesus, which he had so eminently borne in his body.

Francisco Franco, R+I+P

Today is the 31st anniversary of the death of Francisco Paulino Hermenegildo Teódulo Franco y Bahamonde Salgado Pardo, the man who may very well have saved all of Europe from the Red Terror. Had the Communists taken control of Spain, all of Europe would have been at danger. A devout Catholic, denounced as a Nazi by the modern left, he was one of three world leaders to receive telegrammes of thanks from the world Jewish community after the war for his efforts in saving thousands of Jewish lives (the other two were His Holiness, Pope Pius XII and His Majesty, Gustav V, King of the Swedes, the Goths and the Wends).

Roman Catholic bishops talk about sex

According to this story in the Chicago Tribune, the Bishops of the United States, at their fall meeting, " issued guidelines for ministering to gay and lesbian parishioners that many churchmen hoped would present a more welcoming face, including urging priests to baptize the children of gay parents."

Let me get this straight. The last time I checked the Code of Canon Law said,

Can. 868 ß1 For an infant to be baptized lawfully it is required:

2ƒ that there be a well founded hope that the child will be brought up in the catholic religion. If such hope is truly lacking, the baptism is, in accordance with the provisions of particular law, to be deferred and the parents advised of the reason for this.

Here we have a situation in which "gay parents" are obviously not believing Catholics, so there can be no "well founded hope that the child will be brought up in the catholic religion," and yet our Bishops are "urging priests to baptize the children of gay parents."

So what we have is a situation in which their Most Reverend Excellencies oppose homosexuality, but have decided that if the sodomites are going to go ahead any way they should get a little something extra that straight, married couples don't get: baptism for their children in disobedience to Canon Law.

From the Chicago Tribune.

Turkey ends French military ties

The opposition in the French Assembly has had the temerity to table a bill calling for the denial of the genocidal murder of 1.5 million Armenian Christians in the early XXth Century by the Turks to be made a "hate crime". "Enlightened, Western, secular" Turkey has broken off military ties with France in anger. While The New Crusade opposes the concept of "hate crime" laws, if it is a crime in France to deny the National Socialist genocide of the Jews, why should it not be to deny the equally evil crime committed by the Muslim Turks against the Christian Armenians?

(The illustration is the headline of an article in the New York Times dated December 15, 1915 stating that nearly one million Armenians had deliberately been put to death by the Ottoman government.)

Commemoration of All Souls of the Carmelite Order

Today is the Commemoration of All Souls of the Carmelite Order. On it we remember in our prayers all members of the First, Second and Third Orders who have passed from this life and are not yet admitted to the Beatific Vision. I ask you to pray for them in union with both the Carmelites of the Traditional Observance and the Discalced Carmelites.

The Feast of Saint Albert the Great, BCD, IIIrd Class

Today is the Feast of St Albert the Great, the teacher of the Angelic Doctor, St Thomas Aquinas.

The Collect from the Roman Breviary:

O God, who gavest grace unto blessed Albert, thy Bishop and Doctor, to become great because of his subjection of this world's wisdom to a childlike faith in thee : grant us, we beseech thee ; in such wise to follow his doctrine that finally we may enjoy the fulness of thy light in heaven. Through.

Beginning today I will be running links to the Readings from the Roman Martyrology, for the convenience of those who recite the Divine Office and don't have a copy. Since the Martyrology is always anticipated, that is said a day in advance, I shall run both the current day and the following.

Feast of All Saints of the Carmelite Order

Today is the Feast of All Saints of the Carmelite Order. I believe, tho' I stand ready for correction, that most Orders keep this Feast today, honouring the Saints of their particular observance. I do not have my Breviarum Carmelitarum by me (actually, it's only a Diurnal and it's on loan to my pastor) so I can't post the Collect and Lessons, but here is some information on the Order and its Saints:

From the Catholic Encyclopædia.

The following links are from the NO Calendar, so the dates of the Feasts are not necessarily correct, but some of the links lead to brief biographies, so I'm posting them anyway.

The (NO) Carmelite Calendar from the OCD (Ireland) website. I am O.Carm. of course, but a Carmelite is a Carmelite and this Calendar shows the NO rankings of the Feasts in both Orders' Calendars.

Feast of St Josaphat, BM, III Class

Today is the Feast of St Josaphat Kuncevyc. I have something in common with him. We both came "home to Rome" out of Orthodoxy. However, St Josaphat was martyred for his decision!

The Collect from the Roman Breviary:

Raise up, O Lord, we pray thee, in thy Church the Spirit whereby blessed Josaphat thy Martyr and Bishop laid down his life for the sheep : that, by his intercession, we being moved and strengthened by the same, may not fear to lay down our lives for our brethren. Through... in the unity of the same.

The Martyrology

From the Catholic Encyclopædia: "By martyrology is understood a catalogue of martyrs and saints arranged according to the order of their feasts, i. e., according to the calendar."

Liturgically, the Martyrology is read in the Divine Office at Prime, always anticipated, that is, the reading for the following day is read. With the suppression of Prime in the Novus Ordo "Liturgy of the Hours", which replaced the Breviary, following Vatican II, the book is not used liturgically in the new rite, although the custom exists in some places, including the United States, of reading the entry for the birth of Jesus before midnight Mass on Christmas.

While only required in public recitation, it has always been considered praiseworthy for individuals reciting the Office alone to read the Martyrology at the appointed place in Prime.

Even if not used liturgically, the Martyrology is a valuable resource. Literally thousands of Saints are listed in order of their Feasts or Heavenly Birthday and for those whose names are known only to God and are commemorated on All Saints Day, each reading ends with the words, "And elsewhere in divers places, many other holy martyrs, confessors, and holy virgins. R. Thanks be to God."

The Feast of St Didacus

Today is the Feast of St Didacus, C. (kept yesterday, his Heavenly Birthday in the Order of Friars Minor in which he was a lay brother). Of interest is that he is also known by his Spanish name San Diego de Alcala and it is he for whom the City of San Diego, CA is named.

The Collect from the Roman Breviary:

Almighty and everlasting God, who of thy wondrous providence dost choose the weak things of the world to confound those things that are strong : mercifully grant to us thy humble servants ; that, by the devout prayers of thy blessed Confessor Didacus, we may be found worthy to be exalted to everlasting glory in heaven. The XXIIIrd Sunday after Pentecost

Today is the XXIIrd Sunday after Pentecost.

The Collect from the Roman Breviary:

O Lord, we beseech thee, absolve thy people from their offences : that, through thy bountiful goodness, we may all be delivered from the bands of those sins, which by our frailty we have committed. Through.

Were it not, it would be the Feast of St Martin, PM (no, not that Martin! His Feast was yesterday!). Here is the Commemoration used before the reforms of Bl. John XXIII:

Ant: If any man shall come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

V. The righteous shall flourish like a palm-tree.
R. And shall spread abroad like a cedar in Líbanus.

Let us pray.
O eternal Shepherd, do thou look favorably upon thy flock, which we beseech thee to guard and keep for evermore through the Blessed Martin thy Martyr and Supreme Pontiff, whom thou didst choose to be the chief shepherd of the whole Church. (Through.)

An excellent leader from tomorrow's Telegraph on Red Tony Blair's government's plans to tighten the "hate crime" (read "thought crime") laws in the UK, because of the acquital of the leader of the British National Party on charges he called Islam a "wicked, vicious faith".

This, below, of course, was not consider a "hate crime" by the Crown Prosecution Service under Red Tony's Government. The picture was taken at a Muslim demonstration outside Westminster Cathedral, during the time of Holy Mass, after our Holy Father's speech at Regensburg!

Feria

Today is a Feria with a Commemoration of the Four Crowned Martyrs.

The Commemoration:

Ant: Even the very hairs of your head are all numbered; fear not therefore ; ye are of more value than many sparrows.

V. Be glad, O ye righteous, and rejoice in the Lord.

R. And be joyful, all ye that are true of heart.

Let us pray.
Grant, we beseech thee, Almighty God : that, like as we have known thy glorious Martyrs to be constant in their confession of thy Faith ; so we may feel the succour of their loving intercession. Through.

The Roman Martyrology:

At Rome, on the Lavican Way, three miles from the city, the martyrdom of the Saints Claudius, Nicostratus, Symphorian, Castorius, and Simplicius. They were first sent to prison, then scourged with whips set with metal, but since they could not be made to forsake the faith of Christ, Diocletian ordered them to be thrown into the river.

Also, on the Lavican Way, the birthday of the saintly brothers, Severus, Severian, Carpophorus, and Victorinus, called the Four Crowned, who were scourged to death with leaded whips, during the reign of the same emperor. Because their names, known some years afterwards by revelation, could not then be ascertained, it was ordered that their anniversary should be commemorated with the preceding five, under the name of the Four Saints Crowned. This custom was retained by the Church, even after their names had been revealed.

Also at Rome, St. Deusdedit, pope, whose merit was so great that he cured a leper by kissing him.

In the village of Plexem, on the Weser River in Germany, St. Willehad, first bishop of Bremen, who, together with St. Boniface, whose disciple he was, spread the Gospel in Friesland and Saxony.

At Soissons in France, St. Godfrey, bishop of Amiens, a man of great sanctity.

At Verdun in France, St. Maur, bishop and confessor.

At Tours in France, St. Clarus, a priest whose epitaph was written by St. Paulinus.

And elsewhere in divers places, many other holy martyrs, confessors, and holy virgins.
R. Thanks be to God.

Feria

Today is a Feria with no Commeroation.

The Roman Martyrology is as follows:

At Padua, the death of St. Prosdocimus, consecrated as first bishop of that city by the blessed apostle Peter. He was sent to that city to preach the word of God and there he died a holy death, celebrated for many virtues and miracles.

At Perugia, St. Herculanus, bishop and martyr.

At Schwelm in Germany, the martyrdom of St. Engelbert, bishop of Cologne. He was on his way from that city to the town of Essen in order to consecrate a church, when he was set upon by ruffians on the road and slain by their many blows. Thus he suffered martyrdom in defence of Church liberty and for obedience to the Roman Church.

The same day, St. Amaranthus, martyr. After successfully fulfilling the course of his trials he was buried in the city of Albi, but lives in eternal glory.

At Melitina in Armenia, the martyrdom of the Saints Hiero, Nicander, Hesychius, and thirty others, who were crowned in the persecution of Diocletian under the governor Lysias.

At Amphipolis in Macedónia, the holy martyrs Auctus, Taurio, and Thessalonica.

At Ancyra in Galatia, the martyrdom of Saints Melasippus, Anthony and Carina, under Julian the Apostate.

At Alexandria, the blessed Achilles, bishop, renowned for his learning, faith, and purity of life.

In Friesland, the death of St. Willibrord, bishop of Utrecht, who was consecrated bishop by blessed Pope Sergius, and preached the Gospel in Friesland and Denmark.

At Metz, St. Rufus, bishop and confessor.

At Strasbourg, St. Florentius, bishop.

And elsewhere in divers places, many other holy martyrs, confessors, and holy virgins.

Ember Days

The Ember Days are the Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays following Ash Wednesday, Pentecost, the Feast of the Holy Cross and St Lucy's Day. They are traditionally days of Fasting and Abstinence at the four seasons and ordinations were conferred on the four Ember Saturdays. Whilst His Holiness Pope Leo the Great (440-461) considered the Ember Fasts after Pentecost, Holy Cross and St Lucy to be an Apostolic Tradition, the fourth Fast, after Ash Wednesday, was a later addition, though His Holines Pope Gelasius (492-496) speaks of all four. Unknown in the East, they spread slowly in the West, brought to England by St Augustine, adopted in Gaul by the Merovingas, and observed in Spain in the XIth Century, they were only introduced into Milan by St Charles Borremeo, whose charge of the Diocese began in 1560.

Judeo-Christianity?

The following from a frequent commenter here, "Religion of Pieces", was intended as a comment on my post Christians ask if force is needed to protect their religious values, but I decided to use it as a jumping off point for a new post.

Muslims have in the last five years done more for Judeo-Christian unity than all the Popes, Archbishops, Rabbis, Pastors and theologians in the last 500 years.

Faced with the Muslim menace, the various branches of Judeo-Christianity are realising that the values that unite them are vastly more important and more worth striving for than the insignificant details that divide them.

While I agree with the thrust of the comment, I take exception to the term "Judeo-Christian". There has been no such thing since the end of the Judaising heresy in the Apostolic Era. The Catholic Church is the New Israel according to Scripture and the Church subsumed all that was good in Biblical Judaism. Thus to refer to Judeo-Christianity is to refer to a non-existent construct, in much the same way as referring to the "Protestant Church" or the "Christian Church" (meaning the entire body of Christians) is to refer to something which does not exist.

However, it is true that our civilsation and culture are based not only on the Religion founded by Christ and taught by the One, Holy, Roman, Catholic and Apostolic Church. They are also based on Greek thought and Roman law. Thus, you will never see the term Judeo-Christian used by me. What you will see are repeated references to the glories of and the need to defend our Græco-Roman Catholic Civilsation and Culture.

This in no way negates the point made by my commenter. While it is true that the Agarene (vide Genesis xvi) menace is an uniting factor in Western society, I simply make the point that, willy-nilly, like it or not, the people uniting are partakers in that Græco-Roman Catholic Civilsation and Culture by the very fact that they live in lands formed under its ægis.

Feria (Bl Nun' Alvarez in the Carmelite Calendar)

Today is a Feria with no Commemoration.

However in the Traditional Carmelite Calendar it is the Feast of Bl. Nun' Alvares Pereira, the Liberator of Portugal, who after laying down his sword became a Carmelite Friar.

His biography from Tradition in Action.

The Roman Martyrology follows:

At Barcelona in Spain, St. Severus, bishop and martyr, who had his head pierced with a spike, and thus received the crown of martyrdom for the sake of the Catholic faith.

At Tunis in Africa, the birthday of St. Felix, martyr, who, having confessed Christ, was sent to prison. His sentence had been deferred, but the next day he was found dead, as is related by St. Augustine when he was expounding on a psalm to the people on the feast of the saint.

At Theopolis, which is Antioch, ten holy martyrs who are said to have suffered at the hands of the Saracens.

In Phrygia, St. Atticus, martyr.

At Berg in Flanders, the death of St. Winoc, abbot, who was renowned for virtues and miracles, and for a long time was servant to the brethren subject to him.

At Fondi in Lazio, St. Felix, monk.

At Limoges in Aquitaine, St. Leonard, confessor, disciple of the blessed bishop Remigius, who was born of a noble family but chose to lead a solitary life. He was celebrated for holiness and miracles, but his virtue shone particularly in the deliverance of captives.

And elsewhere in divers places, many other holy martyrs, confessors, and holy virgins.

French Restaurateurs Protest Smoking Ban

If I didn't already support le vicomte Philippe le Jolis de Villiers de Saintignon for President of the French Republic, this story would lead me to do so, my Royalism aside. The Red Republican government has "decreed" a smoking ban and M. le vicomte seems to be the only major politician supporting the just protests at this government dictation of how private businesses are to be run:

Philippe de Villiers, a far-right politician who attended the Paris demonstration, pledged to support vendors who refuse to heed what he called an "iniquitous law."

Christians ask if force is needed to protect their religious values

Maybe the awakening is finally coming! The Evangelical Alliance, "a mainstream organisation representing 1.2 million (protestant) Christians" in the UK has issued a report which says that the erosion of the religious rights of Christians may necessarily lead to "(D)isobedience to law, civil disobedience, involving selective, non-violent resistance or, ultimately, violent revolution."

This is not some fringe group. Participating in the writing the report were "Lord Mawhinney, the Tory peer, Andy Reed, the Labour MP, and the Rt Rev Peter Forster, the (Anglican) Bishop of Chester."

Let us hope that the dhimmis in HM's Government may sit up and take notice!

On the same day, the birthday of St. Quartus, a disciple of the apostles.

At Viterbo, during the persecution of Maximian, the holy martyrs Valentine, a priest, and Hilary, a deacon. For their attachment to the faith of Christ, they were tied to a stone and cast into the Tiber, but being miraculously delivered by an angel, they were beheaded, and thus crowned with the glory of martyrdom.

At Caesarea in Cappadocia, the holy martyrs Germanus, Theophilus, Caesarius, and Vitalis, who nobly endured martyrdom in the Decian persecution.
